A group of young men were caught gambling and smoking on the Sabbath, and the next day they were brought before the rabbi to account for their actions.

"I'm sorry," the first man said. "I forgot that it was the Sabbath."

The rabbi sighed. "I suppose that is possible. You are forgiven, but do not be so careless in the future."

The next man came forward. "I forgot that gambling was forbidden on the Sabbath, Rabbi."

"That also seems possible, and just as careless," the rabbi said. "You are also forgiven."

The third man then came forward. "Forgive me, Rabbi. I was also careless."

"Yes, I'm sure," the rabbi said, resigned to hearing more excuses. "What did you forget?"

"I forgot to shut the curtains."
