The Visit

By Paul G. Tremblay

Visitors

A young boy
freckles and smiles
his mother
once youthful
Visiting
A loved one
is what she had said
his mother
would say no more
Whispering
A tired vow
to grass and granite
his mother
once beautiful
now like stone
Resting
A rolling hill
above the young boy
above the visit
his eyes
find a shadow
Standing
A dark figure
with setting sun behind
his mother
does not see
Frightened
A young boy
once freckles and smiles
his hand
is strangely alone
Headless!
A dark figure
floats down the hill
its path
to the visit
to the boy
Motionless
A young boy
groans inside
his mother
once helpful
does nothing
Dissipating
A dark figure
fades at a young boy's foot
his mother
once helpful
does nothing
Visitors
A young boy
once freckles and smiles
his mother
once youthful
now like shadow.
