Lady of the Mad

By Melissa Pinol

We do not call on the Lady of life
Or the Mistress of joy and song
But the weary Goddess of the Mad
The keeper of minds gone wrong.

Goddess of Madmen, Goddess
Of fools: look down at us and sigh
You grab the Wanderer by
The heels and never let him fly.

Lady of the twisted path,
Mistress of things Not Right,
Guard the growing throng that
Rambles under your burning light.

Lunatics we have been called
Lost children of the moon, as
Through the ages, through the worlds
We have danced to your bitter tune.

We who do not fit this world
Put ourselves in your keeping:
To keep the blood from the killer's
Blade and grant the Fool safe sleeping.
