Even Odin

By William P. Robertson

Ragnarok dawns with bloody skies.
Reindeer run harried
as the castle
throws weird shadows
over the breakfasting King.
Even the black-hearted
grow wary of the inner abyss.

In Hel the armed legions troop
to their dreadful longship
piloted by Loki, the God killer.
The Undead raise a fearful din
as the World Serpent frees
his tail from his jaws
and tidal waves them to Asgard.

Earthquakes free Fenrir, the wolf,
who leaps up to rake the heavens
with his snapping fangs.
His breath emits poisonous fumes
as fire giants stomp up the rainbow,
showering Midgard with shards of color.
Even Odin has nowhere to hide!
