Alizarin Red S and Alcian Blue

By W. Gregory Stewart

a skeleton
(an armature of serpent)
a rabbit's faith in miracle
and the haunt
of horses before the moonwind

plow the seas, fish the fields--
ride you down that river to

the rainbow or the storm--
Wagyl, fly
Quetzalcoatl, fly
Serpent of Midgaard, Peacock and hen,
fly, you

before the clouds, before
still beasts in cold glass,
black velvet and cold iron pins

before the moonwind, fly

Moonsnake
