The First Kiss

By Rochelle Mitchell

On the eve of the Spring Equinox,
Faery music permeates the air
She listens for it
Between the cricket chirps.
She is beautiful
She is innocent.
She does not know
The magic in a kiss.
She loves him
For his foolish grin
And how he dances too close.
She kisses Earl Glickman
Under the spring moon,
Then she watches Earl
As he camps out on her lawn
Since her parents don't let
Her boyfriends go upstairs,
At sixteen, all love is true,
So when it starts raining,
She invites him in
For cold cereal and milk,
And stares at Earl's puppy dog eyes.
Forever is a long time.
